Michael Heil, MHHSA, CVA, MAFF
Michael Heil is a principal of the consulting group. Since founding HealthWorks in 1992, Michael has assisted a wide range of client organizations: large integrated healthcare systems, academic medical centers, community hospitals, medical groups, HMOs and long-term care services. Engagements have included strategic planning, facility master planning, operations improvement, physician contracting, medical staff development and healthcare legal consultation and new business development in services ranging from primary care programs to tertiary centers.
Michael has 32 years experience in hospital and health services management and management consulting, including 16 years as principal of the consulting firm. Through a management agreement, he has been chief operating officer for Sutter Roseville Medical Center. For 16 years Michael was vice president for professional services and vice president for service development for San Jose Medical Center. Both these hospitals are part of multi-hospital integrated health systems, Sutter Health and the Good Samaritan Health System, respectively. Previously, Michael was assistant administrator for Southwest Vermont Medical Center. He has also been president of California Shock/Trauma Air Rescue (CALSTAR), a non-profit regional medical helicopter consortium in northern California (and now serves as a member of its board of directors); a management engineer for a community hospital; and a management engineer for Johnson and Johnson.
Michael received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University and his Masters degree in Hospital and Health Services Administration with distinction from the Graduate School of Business at Cornell University. Michael has been a teaching assistant in health policy at Cornell University, a faculty member in health economics at St. Mary’s College of California and faculty for conferences on topics including strategy for healthcare systems, the integration of facility master planning and business planning, re-engineering in healthcare management and trauma center management. Michael is recognized by the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts as an Certified Valuation Analyst and a Master Analyst in Financial Forensics.
